As I write these words there
are people all over the world who are fighting and dying for their
version of 'Truth'. This has been a true statement for my entire
lifetime. I hope in my lifetime that this ends... or at least
that I can do all in my power to bring us to a more peaceful way.
Currently the United States military
is making it's powerful way to the city of Baghdad, Iraq. Our
tanks, our men, our 'smart bombs' are imposing the will of George
W. Bush upon the country of Iraq. I cannot argue the points
of 'right' or 'wrong' in this fight .. that's unimportant to
my mind. War kills. War destroys. War creates fear, hate, pain,
rubble, widows, orphans, starvation, pollution, poverty, and
division. No matter how 'noble' the cause, war cannot be the
best answer.
The troubles in the Middle East are
complex and centuries old. There is no one easy answer or even
one easy question. There are questions of oil and natural resources,
the religious aspects, oppressive leaders and dictators, prejudice,
imperialism, human rights, displaced peoples, imposing ideals
and morals.. the list goes on and on and changes with each new
cast of characters. Let me just point out some information on
a few of these questions. I offer these only as food for thought.
